B&CO x Kinnarps: a partnership giving new life to coworking in Montpellier

Montpellier combines a strong historical identity with a fast-developing business environment. The city is home to growing sectors such as research, healthcare, digital technology and commercial property, which creates demand for workplaces that are both functional and appealing. In this context, B&CO is part of a wider shift towards spaces that support modern ways of working while also adding value to the surrounding area.

Transforming an older building for modern work

For B&CO, the challenge was clear: to transform an older building into a more attractive and vibrant space that better reflects new ways of working. The 1,466 m² site, including 600 m² furnished by Kinnarps, was planned to support a range of activities – from individual work and meetings to informal breaks and day-to-day interaction. Rather than simply refurbishing the space, the project aimed to make the building more welcoming, practical and appealing to visitors. It also serves as a clear example of how a coworking environment can combine function, comfort and visual appeal.

The space is used by a broad mix of occupants, including companies, business schools, training organisations and professionals working remotely or visiting from other businesses.

Kinnarps’ role and contribution

In this project, Kinnarps helped shape a workspace that is practical, ergonomic and visually consistent with B&CO’s identity. The furniture was selected to support different ways of working, with a focus on flexibility, design and long-term durability.

The space also gives Kinnarps a visible presence within the coworking environment, where visitors can experience our interior solutions in use rather than in a traditional showroom setting. As a result, the project demonstrates how well-planned interiors can support movement, adaptability and a better overall user experience.

A strong visual identity

The interior design has a clear and distinctive character that moves away from more standard office aesthetics. It is shaped by B&CO’s own identity, which is reflected in the choice of colours, materials and decorative elements throughout the space. In the reception area, tones of rust, pink and green create a strong first impression, while the black-and-white chequered kitchen adds contrast and visual definition.

Soft furnishings, plants and lighting help make the environment feel more welcoming and comfortable. Overall, the design shows how a functional workspace can also have a strong personality, combining Scandinavian furniture with a more expressive and individual style.

A coworking space that changes how people work

The project is not only about appearance, but also about supporting new ways of working. B&CO and Kinnarps wanted to create a coworking space that offers more than simple workstations and can be a place where people alternate between focused work, interaction and collaboration throughout the day. Its multifunctional layout helps use the available space more effectively while giving people greater choice in how and where they work. This reflects a wider shift among companies, which increasingly need workplaces that are flexible, welcoming and able to support different tasks and working styles.

A successful collaboration

The collaboration between B&CO and Kinnarps was based on a shared goal: to create a workspace that adds value for the users and optimises the space efficiently. The project brought together different people and skills, with close collaboration on the layout, atmosphere and choice of materials. This way of working made it possible to create a space that is both functional and clearly aligned with B&CO’s identity.

For B&CO, the result is a workplace that supports changing ways of working while having a strong visual identity.

For Kinnarps, it provides a real-life setting where clients and visitors can experience our solutions in everyday use.
