Peter Andersson awarded the 2026 Bruno Mathsson Prize

We are both proud and delighted that one of the designers we have worked closely with over the years, through our brand NC, has been awarded the largest design prize in the Nordic region. The Bruno Mathsson Prize, awarded since 1984, recognises design of the very highest quality – and this year’s recipient is more than deserving.

Peter Andersson is behind several of our furniture icons, including the easy chair John, the armchair Charlie, as well as Rialto and Tilt. What they all share is a thoughtful design where function, ergonomics and aesthetics work in harmony – always with the user at the centre.

The Karin and Bruno Mathsson Foundation, which awards the prize, writes in its citation:

“With the user at the center and with ingenious concepts, Peter Andersson designs furniture and products that enrich our everyday activities with moments of discovery. His work involves forms that, through subtle radii, shifts, and curves, clearly signal function while also possessing artistry and appealing qualities. Andersson has impressively transferred this quality to the development of furniture for healthcare and education. These are environments with particularly high demands on ergonomics and usability, yet where the designer’s contribution often remains anonymous despite having a significant impact on society.”

This is an important recognition that confirms the value of developing inclusive and well-considered furniture solutions.

The award ceremony will take place at Vandalorum in Värnamo, Sweden in connection with the opening of an exhibition showcasing Peter Andersson’s work.
